In 2005 I moved to Columbia, MD. to create a new computer gaming center and nightclub experience under the CyberDen name. Originally opened in a small test location so as to fine tune the model, the final CyberDen opened in 2007 as one of the largest gaming centers in the world. At 7500 square feet it contained:
12 Console stations on HDTV's
34 tricked out PC stations
1500 square foot nightclub and lounge
Arcade room
Art Gallery
5.1 Projector Gaming Lounge
Retail store
Dessert Cafe
I wore many hats running CyberDen from designing blueprints to turning the finished empty rooms into the final turnkey products. This involved everything from budgeting and purchasing all the equipment to installing it all. Network programming, machine builds, video matrix systems, nightclub design, employees, legal mumbo jumbo, you name it, I did it.
CyberDen soon became known as one of the best gaming centers around with it's unique look and open space design. No more being forced to sit in a cramped rectangle box with mismatched half-broken machines and smelly surroundings. In less than two years, most gaming centers are lucky to have 500-1000 members. We had over 3400 and climbing.
CyberDen was well known for it's amazing birthday parties, PC, console and In The Groove 2 gaming tournaments, gaming premieres via in-store and iGames.org supported programs, state of the art computer equipment and some of the fastest internet gaming in the country thanks to 4 separate T1 lines all load-shared to create the fastest ping rates around.
CyberDen also housed one of the best nightclubs for miles around. We hosted several DJ and live music nights ranging from local artists to nationals such as Dieselboy who all raved how our spot was the best they've ever heard in the Baltimore/DC/Virginia area.
In 2008 I was faced with the need to move back to California to be near my family, especially my father who has been battling Alzheimers. I basically had to sacrifice the Gaming Center to fates beyond my control. Now I read on the CyberDen forums that the center will close November 2008. Sad...
I accomplished a tremendous amount putting CyberDen together and I would entertain doing it again under the proper conditions. If you're interested in discussing such a venture as this in greater detail, feel free to contact me via the link on this page.
